Brazilian Oak Water Damage Repair & Refinish, McGregor Downs
Water leak under a kitchen cabinet saturated the subfloor in this McGregor Downs home. After the cabinet and damaged flooring were removed and the subfloor fully dried, we laced in new 3 1/8" Brazilian oak on both sides of the repair. The entire floor was then refinished with a custom Bona stain color, Bona Intense Seal, and Bona Traffic HD.

The Challenge
A water leak beneath a kitchen cabinet caused enough moisture damage that both the cabinet and the surrounding flooring had to be removed to let the subfloor dry completely. Once dry, the exposed area left a gap in the 3 1/8" Brazilian oak that needed new wood laced in on each side — Brazilian oak is a dense, distinctive-looking species, so matching the grain and width precisely matters. After the repair, the entire floor had to be refinished to blend the new boards seamlessly into the existing field.
What We Did
We laced in new 3 1/8" Brazilian oak on both sides of the repair, cutting in tight to the existing flooring so the seams would disappear under finish. The full floor was then sanded and refinished: a custom Bona stain color was applied across the field, followed by Bona Intense Seal to lock in the color and raise the grain, then two coats of Bona Traffic HD for a durable commercial-grade topcoat. The repair blends completely — you cannot pick out where the new wood starts.
